were all skunks for me??? i tried all the gizmos i had…
spinner baits…crank baits (shallow-medium-deep divers)…
swim baits…jigs with trailers…jerk baits…flukes…top water
frogs…worms (all colors)…finally…every color of creature
baits i had…“pepe le pew”…skunked!!!
had a few bites on the creature baits…but…they all came
unbuttoned!!! doh!!! i tried the 20’ to 30’ zone where i metered
fish…nope…i tried really shallow where i could see fish splashing
making their nests…nope…skunked!!!
now…april 1st…i got out in the big blue…
wow…this is depressing…i can’t remember ever seeing it this bad???
places that normally have acres ‘n’ acres of kelp…zero strands at
the surface??? a few places that had miles ‘n’ miles of kelp beds…
are lucky to have just one or two car size stringers of kelp at the surface???
now i’m depressed beyond belief…
i bounced a big white scampy in the little giggle weed beds that are left…
since the big kelp die off that has lasted the last three years ‘n’ counting…
just found a few calicos ‘n’ sand basstards…no butts…even sank some
live bait??? no butts…
by mid week…ocean was trashed with late season rain storm…
by the end of the week…the beach was too windy…but the lake
meanwhile…had a calm day…so i gassed it!!!
got to the lake…cry-key!!! 38 degrees…burr!!! luckily…it warmed
up fast…to pleasant 65 degree range…there is a god!!!
tried the fluke??? nada…tried the jigs??? nope…switched back
to the creatures…finally…when i put on the black with blue sparkles…
i caught some…wasn’t getting wacked close to shore…but
bagged’um in the 15’ to 25’ range???
the “pepe-le-pew” skunk for three weeks in march is over…paddling
around looking at turtles ‘n’ blue herons no more!!!
goin’ back to the beach…just as soon as i can find a calm surf less day…
