This site is basically "semi-private". The owner, his administrators and moderators reserve the right to not activate any account and to delete any account at anytime. Basically the old "we reserve the right to refuse service" sign you see at many places is hanging on the front door of Baytubers.
Also know that traditionally lurkers have not been very well accepted around here, so welcome to Baytubers and please post at least once a month so we know your alive and well.

Re: Baytuber Membership
this is data from a typical board...
Currently Active Users: 224 (3 members and 221 guests)
it is obvious from this data that most people read rather than post...
but...how to tell from lurkers v.s. guests that just enjoy reading
about peoples adventures or info on tackle 'n' techniques ???
i'd say it's impossible...
so...i chose to tell stories rather than reports of "where or when"
the fish are biting...this...in it's self causes lurkers to go else where...
like cattle boats fish counts for wot their after...bites...
leaving people that are only interested in tackle 'n' technique info...
or reading about adventures "n" being inspired to get out there 'n' fish...
cheers to those like me...that are inspired to read...others adventures !!!

Re: Baytuber Membership
I hear ya Phil
Lurker VS guest? that's a good question but by Baytubers old standards it doesn't really matter what you call it... if you don't post for a month or 2 you got a warning and then eventually banned ...
But this post is 6 years old
, and the tradition of Baytubers deleting "Lurkers" is dead, has been for awhile
If someone wants to just chill and read post? that's fine with me... be my "guest"
, I can't tell you the last time I deleted anyone for lurking
As far as fish reports?
I vote to each his own
I do both, sometimes a fish report with a little story sometimes a story with a little fish report
I still wouldn't share a squid bite or a wide open bite of any kind immediately on on any public board, just a personal choice
But I bet the current 195 Baytuber members most of whom rarely sign in let alone post? would hardly blow up any bite even if I posted it while on the water with a live feed
Anyway
I gotta go get some chit done
Love to hear yours or anyone's ideas for keeping this place alive
good topic and thanks for your contribution

Re: Baytuber Membership
"guests" can't chill 'n' read...all forums are hidden(except membership 'n' tourny forums)...only signed in members can read forums..
maybe posting 'n' replying should be the only requirement to "signing in"...
that's 194 too many to get me to report on fishing...
i'll stick to gay little stories...

are you sure you want my ideas???

hope baytubers stays alive...love reading about others adventures...

Posting 'n' replying are the only requirements
The reason we have it set up with limited access until approval is to keep all the spammers and robots out of the forum
I am basically running this place solo now, no big deal but I don't have the time, desire or expertise to stay on top of and sift through a bunch of accounts then repair the damage they cause.
We were behind on software updates one time and there were tons of fake accounts being created, logging in and spamming, it was a nightmare...
You do realize once someone post in the 'Introduce yourself ' section and that post is approved they have access to the entire site right?
many of these accounts have only that 1 post, these are the guest I am talking about, They took the time to say hello and convince me they were human and now they can chill n read

and the bar for approval is low
At one point someone had to vouch for you,
now? basically if you're not trying to sell Russian porn you're in

yep I would love to hear yer ideas
maybe start a new thread about
keeping the doors open and ideas for doing it

Re: Baytuber Membership
Maybe a couple public forums, like Bedtime Stories, or sumthin. Whet their appetite to be a contributing member of our subculture.
But I like that this site has a lot more privacy than other sites so people are more likely to share info, knowing that there are not hundreds of lurkers that will show up with their private boats and a$$hole attitudes in high gear. Less trolls as well, or at least we know who the trolls are and take it with humor
